MECA 2002 Lifeline Report to MPSC

Summary

In the year 2002, 1394 applications for Lifeline assistance were processed by MECA.  Of those applications, 1274 were approved.  During the year, 1831 Lifeline subscribers left the program.  As of December 31, 2002, there were 3,707 customers still receiveing Lifeline assistance from MECA member companies.  This is a net loss of 553 customers from December 31, 2001.

While MECA Lifeline recipients received approximately $90,287 from the MECA program in 2002, they also received approximately $350,000 from the National Exchange Carrier Association for an approximate total of $440,000 in Lifeline benefits in 2002.
